Mabanol Connect – Digital Emulsion Monitoring for Greater Process Reliability and Less Effort

Monitor emulsions, document measurement values centrally, detect deviations at an early stage and organise your entire emulsion management process digitally – with Mabanol Connect.
In metalworking, stable emulsions are crucial for process reliability, tool life, surface quality and, ultimately, the productivity of your manufacturing operations. At the same time, manual emulsion management remains one of the most time-consuming routine tasks in many businesses: measuring concentrations, recording pH values, transferring results to lists, checking limit values, maintaining documentation in accordance with local legislation and EHS, and taking the appropriate action in the event of deviations.
Mabanol Connect makes this process simpler, more transparent and digital. Mabanol Connect is the digital emulsion management platform of the Mabanol Smart Fluid 360 system. Measurement values such as emulsion concentration, pH value, temperature, nitrite level, water hardness and fill levels can be centrally recorded, visualised and documented. The web-based dashboard provides access to this information at any time, regardless of location, including measurement history. Manual measurements can be transferred to the dashboard in a matter of seconds via QR code or NFC tag on the machines, and measurement data from the Mabanol Detect sensor system can be integrated in real time.

“Our emulsion documentation has never been this straightforward! No more paper clutter or scattered Excel spreadsheets – all our documentation is now stored digitally in one organised place and can be accessed quickly from anywhere.”

3 ways to quickly document your emulsion parameters

1. Data capture via QR code

Each machine is fitted with a unique QR code. The machine operator scans the QR code using a smartphone or tablet and is taken directly to the relevant machine and the corresponding measurement form in Mabanol Connect.

This enables even large fleets of machinery to be digitised in a structured manner. The measurement technology remains familiar – the documentation is digitised.

2. Data logging via NFC tags

Are cameras not allowed on the production floor? No problem – as an alternative, the machines can be fitted with NFC tags.

The principle is similar: hold a smartphone or tablet up to the NFC tag and Mabanol Connect will open the relevant machine or the designated data-entry process.

3. Automated emulsion monitoring with Mabanol Detect

Anyone wishing to monitor the emulsion continuously can integrate the Mabanol Detect sensor system into Mabanol Connect.

Sensor readings are displayed in real time directly on the Mabanol Connect dashboard. This ensures comprehensive documentation, and Mabanol Connect becomes the central information hub of the Mabanol Smart Fluid 360 system.

What problems does Mabanol Connect solve in day-to-day production?

An everyday scenario

A modern machine park may be highly automated – yet the emulsion management is still often carried out manually. The machine operator takes measurements using a refractometer and test strips. The readings are noted down on paper or transferred to an Excel spreadsheet at a later stage. One member of staff checks the lists. Another department requires the data for EHS analyses and documentation. At the same time, the concentration and pH value change as the process runs. If the concentration is too low or too high, this can compromise the emulsion's stability.

The result: data silos are created, the emulsion breaks down prematurely, leading to production downtime, additional work and delays.

Particularly in workshops with many machine tools, the same question therefore arises every day: how can all relevant emulsion parameters be reliably monitored without generating a significant additional workload for staff? This is precisely where the digital emulsion monitoring system Mabanol Connect comes in.

Solution: Mabanol Connect

Mabanol Connect creates a central digital platform for your emulsion management.

Instead of spreading measurement values across various lists, paper forms or Excel files, the information relating to a machine or system is centrally assigned. The following parameters can be displayed via the web-based dashboard: coolant concentration, pH value, temperature, nitrite level, water hardness and fill level.

This provides production, maintenance and EHS officers with

  • a shared database for emulsion monitoring
  • rapid, location-independent access to all machines and measured values
  • notifications in the event of deviations in measured values

What happens to your measurement data when the person in charge is not standing right next to the machine?

With traditional paper lists, information remains where it was recorded. Mabanol Connect takes a different approach. The web-based dashboard allows access to the stored emulsion data from any location.

Whether in the production hall, the foreman’s office, the maintenance department, head office or whilst on the move: authorised users can view the available information via a browser or the app. This can be a major organisational advantage, particularly for companies with multiple production areas or sites. Instead of asking individual staff members for the latest readings, those in charge can monitor the status of the relevant systems centrally.

How do you keep track of things when you have 10, 20 or 50 machine tools?

A typical challenge in larger production facilities is not just the individual measurement value. The challenge lies in maintaining an overview of all machines and understanding how the values are changing. Mabanol Connect centrally visualises machines, systems, tanks and the associated measurement values, whilst allowing historical data to be stored and analysed as trends. This transforms individual measurement points into a clear picture of the emulsion's condition.

For example, a production manager can see at a glance:

  • Which systems are within the defined parameters?
  • Where is the concentration showing a noticeable trend?
  • When was the last measurement taken?
  • Which values should be checked?
  • How has a parameter developed over a longer period of time?

This transforms emulsion monitoring from a collection of individual measurements into a structured process that enables proactive emulsion management and keeps the emulsions stable in the long term.

How can I prevent my emulsion from breaking down prematurely?

A measurement only provides real benefit if the result can lead to action. That is why Mabanol Connect has an alert function. Notifications are sent out in the event of deviations in measured values. This means that the person in charge does not have to constantly monitor every single machine. Instead, the system helps to draw attention specifically to unusual values – such as a falling pH value.

The aim is not simply to document problems more quickly. The aim is to detect deviations before they lead to major process issues.

This is because changes in relevant emulsion parameters affect process stability, tool life and workpiece quality. This is precisely what the monitoring concept is designed to achieve: deviations should be identified at an early stage, before these factors are compromised and, for example, the emulsion breaks down.

How can I make the necessary documentation more efficient?

Emulsion management is not just about production. It is also about documentation. Regular checks, traceable measurements and operational documentation processes play a particularly important role when it comes to water-based coolants. In practice, this often involves a considerable amount of work. Measurement records must be completed, archived, checked and retrieved when necessary. It is not uncommon for different files and forms to be created in parallel for production, health and safety.

Mabanol Connect helps to record this information centrally and keep it readily available. This not only allows current measurement values to be viewed, but also reveals trends over weeks or months. The complete history can be accessed at any time via the dashboard. Furthermore, Mabanol Connect automatically sends an emulsion status report after every measurement.

What is my refill concentration?

If an emulsion concentration measurement reveals that the concentration is too high or too low, the system must be readjusted. Mabanol Connect supports this process with a built-in refill calculator.

To maintain a stable emulsion concentration over the long term, we recommend using a Mabanol CoolMatic system for fully automated emulsion refill.
